St Paddy’s Day Tribute to Shane MacGowan

When: March 17, from 8pm-late
Where: Ryan’s Bar, 165, Allison Street, G42 8RX
What: Fuzzy Mahone will be performing a special tribute show celebrating the music and poetry of the late Shane MacGowan, who was famously the lead singer of Irish band, The Pogues. Shane’s legacy continues to inspire many and Ryan’s Bar will celebrate Paddy’s Day in honour of the man.

Read About Ireland and Irish Identity at the Zine Library

When: March 16, from 12pm-6pm
Where: Glasgow Zine Library, 636 Cathcart Road, G42 8AA
What: Whilst the Zine Library aren’t hosting any Paddy’s Day specific events, they do have a whole host of zines in their catalogue, some of which focus on Irish culture and identity.

St Patrick’s Day is often the best excuse in the year to have a drink (or two..) but for those of us that don’t drink, a relaxing reading session sounds slightly more appealing than drinking Irish stout by the pintful, draped in green. With the addition of zines like ‘Black in Ireland’ and ‘It Won't Be Long Now’, both of which deal with identity and belonging and were made by Irish makers, there is plenty to learn and read up on this Paddy’s Day.

Watch Ireland v. Scotland at Victoria Bar

When: March 16, from 2pm
Where: Victoria Bar, 400 Victoria Road, G42 8YS
What: This Paddy’s Day weekend is set to be an epic one for rugby fans, as Scotland and Ireland face each other off. The Victoria Bar are taking full advantage of this , bringing in live musicians like Sean Murphy to keep those of us who are less than interested in rugby, happy this Paddy’s Day. Pints of Guinness and shots of Baby Guinness are also on offer for only a few quid! Result.

Jim Monaghan’s Poetry Book Launch at The Rum Shack

When: March 17, from 2-5pm
Where: The Rum Shack, 657 - 659 Pollokshaws Road, G41 2AB
What: Speculative Books invites you to join them in launching a new book, ‘For Auld Intensive Purposes’, from Southside poet - and all round legend - Jim Monaghan. Grab a soft drink or an iconic Irish stout, and enjoy the atmosphere this Paddy’s Day.
