Govanhill Carnival: In Pictures - by Alexander Hoyles

The sun shone on Govanhill for the day of the annual carnival, which took place on the 6 August. Community groups and organisations met in Govanhill Park before parading through the streets of Govanhill and ending with a festival in Queen’s Park. The following images were taken by photographer, Alexander Hoyles.

The following video, by Rhiannon J Davies, contains interviews with some of the people taking part in the parade from different groups including Community Renewal, Romano Lav, the Feel Good Women’s Group, Govanhill Baths, Wee Plates Cafe, and more!

The Govanhill International Festival and Carnival continues until 14 August. To see the full programme visit our online noticeboard.

On 12 August, Greater Govanhill will be launching our exhibition FONDS: Object Speak Louder Than Words. We’ll have an a launch event in the New Phoenix Cinema on Niddrie Road on Friday 12 August from 7-8pm. Reserve your space here.
