Job title: Funding and Finance Officer

Location: Can be based in our Govanhill newsroom, or done remotely.

Terms: 1 day per week – to be worked flexibly – 1 year freelance contract

Salary/rate: £120 per day 

Deadline: 12pm on Monday 22 April 

About us

Greater Govanhill CIC is a community-rooted media organisation. We aim to challenge negative stereotypes, provide a platform for marginalised voices, break down cultural barriers and bring people together.

We publish an award-winning free, solutions-focused, multilingual community magazine. We produce a radio show on a local community radio station, and we run training workshops and events and other special projects.

We also run The Community Newsroom space as a collaborative media hub. 

About the role

This role will be working to support the Greater Govanhill team and board by managing all things relating to our finances and financial procedures. This includes things like sending and paying invoices, monitoring grant funded project spending, providing financial forecasts and reports, and supporting the team with the financial aspect of funding applications.

The ideal candidate will have a good track record in financial management, experience in fundraising for non-profit organisations and a shared ethos and understanding of a grassroots community interest company. 

Please note, that this is a one year contract. We hope that after this date, we will be in a position to extend the contract, but this is not guaranteed at this stage. It will be reviewed at 10 months. 

Responsibilities

Finance 

  • Working with the Greater Govanhill team – and independently – to manage budget spend 

  • Managing relevant systems for our monthly finances inc. invoices and grant spend management using Sage

  • Implementation of systems to support projections and reconciliation 

  • Issuing and paying invoices 

  • Liaising with our external accountancy firm who manage PAYE, NI & pension payments, along with finalising end-of-the-year reconciliation 

  • Providing and presenting regular finance reports to the team and board

  • Supporting with other revenue generating initiatives as required

Fundraising 

  • Co-develop and implement a fundraising strategy for Greater Govanhill in line with our strategic aims, vision and values 

  • Work with the team to identify and write funding applications and assist with the financial elements of funding reports

  • Assist the team to diversify income streams 

Candidate requirements

Essential

  • Experience in finance/fundraiser role(s) (please note, this is not a trainee position) 

  • Experience of successful funding applications for community organisations

  • Experience working with financial management software such as Sage (or similar programmes) 

  • Able to take the initiative and work proactively

  • Able to work as a part of a team 

  • Highly organised and details orientated

  • Experience of using file sharing platforms such as Google Drive

Desirable

  • Background in social enterprise/not-for-profit working 

  • Interest in helping to strengthen independent community media

  • A love of spreadsheets!

  • Based in Glasgow/able to travel here for occasional in person meetings

  • Knowledge of Govanhill/a connection to the area
