Greater Govanhill CIC and The Ferret are delighted to have taken on a shared premises at 82 Bowman Street in Govanhill.

We opened the space in December 2022, initially as a hub to work on a shared project exploring solutions to health inequalities. Mind the Health Gap began at the community level, and expanding out to international coverage.

The idea for The Community Newsroom is to be part of a movement that makes journalism more accessible and useful to the local community. With this in mind, in 2024, we are launching a series of joint events that will include ‘open house’ drop ins, ‘media building block’ workshops and documentary discussion groups.

We’re really excited about our new space and possibilities it brings for working with the community on a number of projects. We’re keen to open up the space for use by others, particularly working in related fields around journalism, media and community development - but we’re open to all enquiries.

In order to make this space collaborative – and also sustainable – we are renting out desks, and the newsroom and meeting room is available for evening/weekend event hire.

Co-working Desk Hire

• £175 pcm for 4 days per week

• £150 pcm for 3 days per week

• £100 pcm for 2 days per week

• £60 pcm month for 1 day per week

With all of the above you would get a set of keys and storage.

• £20 for ad hoc daily use (from 9am - 5:30pm)

• £10 for ad hoc half day use (for either 9am - 1pm or 1:30pm - 5:30pm)

Tea and coffee are included.

Meeting Room Hire (seats 6)

• £10 per hour

• £50 per day

Meeting Room can be booked for free for up to two hours for anyone with a desk.

Whole Space Hire

If you have a workshop or event coming up that will take place in the evening or weekend, you can book the entire space. It can seat a maximum of 25 in when sat out in rows. Or it can be arranged for workshops, or other formats. Projector and speakers also available. Get in touch for more info.

To use the newsroom, you must be a member of either Greater Govanhill or The Ferret and have completed and induction with a member of the team.

Ever since we launched Greater Govanhill, we’ve been keen to run events that bring people together to talk about the issues that matter to you. We ran these online during various lockdowns. But now we have our own space, we’re very excited to be able to start doing these in person.

In 2023, we ran a number of training workshops, screenings, panel discussions, and community conversation on a wide variety of topics.
