Free workshops, talks and more at Greater Govanhill LIVE magazine event in Tramway this Saturday
Join us at Tramway on Saturday 23 August for Greater Govanhill LIVE: Stories From Our Streets – a free day of workshops, performances, and exhibitions celebrating Glasgow 850, our neighbourhood, and the diverse voices that make it unique.
What does a community magazine look like when it comes alive? This Saturday 23 August Greater Govanhill is stepping off the page and into Tramway, inviting our readers to experience Stories From Our Streets: LIVE – a celebration of Glasgow, Govanhill, and the diverse voices that make our neighbourhood special.
As part of Glasgow 850 celebrations, we’re taking over the upstairs of Tramway to transform our Community Canvas into a buzzing space filled with creativity, conversation, and community spirit. From 11am to 3pm, visitors can wander between workshops, performances, and exhibitions – each one capturing a piece of Glasgow’s story, past and present.
Greater Govanhill LIVE is a way of reimagining our magazine as an immersive, interactive experience, reflecting the pages you normally read in print – stories, history, poetry, photography – but shared face-to-face.
Expect Radical Tours Glasgow to reveal Govanhill in a whole new light, creative activities like designing your own 3D building or street tile, and even a chance to try blackout poetry or explore the tradition of workers’ songs. Writer and performer Cat Cochrane will bring spoken word to the stage, while younger visitors can enjoy hands-on activities such as making their own magazine. There will also be henna art, and the Stories from Our Streets photography, video and interactive exhibition to visit.
And of course, it’s also a chance to meet the Greater Govanhill team and help shape what future issues of the magazine will look like.
Whether you were born here or made Glasgow your home later in life, this event celebrates what the city means to each of us – its past, present and future.
