Repair Stop Opens on Victoria Road

Moving to their new home on Victoria Road, the Repair Stop exists as a direct challenge the throw-away culture.

The Repair Stop from the Remade Network has now opened shop 241 Victoria Road – the old Cash Converters Shop. Open from Wednesday - Sunday from 12 - 4pm.

They’ll be offering affordable tech, electrical, and textile repairs to help Govanhill reject throw-away culture including:

REPAIR: Affordable repairs of household tech, electronics, textiles items
LEARN: Repair skills, workshops and education
BUY: Affordable quality refurbished tech, reclaimed and upcycled products from Rags to Riches
REUSE: ‘Tech drop’ - a safe drop-off point for unwanted electrical devices for repair and reuse, or WEEE recycling where devices cannot be reused.

The pandemic has led to an astounding community response to digital inclusion. The Remade team has been refurbishing hundreds of desktop computers and working with amazing community organisations across Glasgow to deliver PCs to those who need them - from youth groups to refugees.

Project Lead, Lauren Hooper said: “We're super excited to have outgrown our pop-up repair service and to be opening our doors on Victoria Road!

“We launched last July in the middle of the pandemic via a pop-up at the Deep End and we've now outgrown our space. Our team all believe strongly in providing a practical alternative to throwaway society – and in creating a social enterprise model that builds local jobs too.

The team have also been accepting donations of unwanted computers and phones which are being prepared for reuse and either sold to keep the project going or donated to folk who need them as part of our digital inclusion efforts.

If you are doing a Spring clear-out after a year at home, they are asking you to consider bringing your unwanted or broken devices to the shop - they will securely wipe your data and make sure they go to a good home.
