Stagnant wages, in-work poverty and inability to keep up with the cost of living all affect people in our neighbourhood. This Saturday, groups from across the country will come together as Scotland Demands Better, a campaign calling on the government to improve wages and invest in social security and services to protect people from poverty.

It’s not as well known but before the UK had a national health service, it had a national restaurant service. British Restaurants were state-supported restaurants serving affordable meals to the general public.Glasgow used to have at least 10 of these restaurants... Now there is a call to bring them back.

During lockdown, Greater Govanhill editor Rhiannon reported on how some community spaces were supporting those in need by providing food provisions. Three years on, little has changed, except for the increase in the number of people seeking support.
