Your Govanhill: Fulton’s

Get to the know the owners of Fulton’s, affectionately known as the two Grahams, as they share their favourite spots along Victoria Road.

Graham Fulton, Graham Russell, aka Big Graham and Wee Graham are a married couple who have been together for an incredible 28 years. Wee Graham was born in Maryhill and grew up in Irvine while Big Graham born and bred in Newton Mearns.

Prior to going into business together, Wee Graham used to work as a catering manager with the world’s largest corporate catering company, while Big Graham has a sales, advertising and banking background. They decided they wanted to get out of their high-pressured work environments, and do something for themselves. They opened their first cafe on Allison Street in 2002, then Fulton's on Victoria Road in 2016. They say the fact they’ve now spent 20 years running establishments here is the “thanks to the fab people of Govanhill”.

What do you love most about running a cafe in Govanhill?

We love the diversity of people we get to meet. All walks of life pass through our doors.

What is your favourite dish that you serve?
That has to be our home made steak pie, potatoes and veg. It’s Wee Graham's mum's recipe… thanks Margaret!

What’s on your headphones at the moment?

Big Graham: Kirsty McColl, Tina Turner, Def Leppard – I’m definitely an 80s boy!

For Wee Graham: Tracey Chapman, or anything else folky or country.

What are you reading/watching?

Wee Graham A Wilbur smith novel

Big Graham Mother's Boy by Patrick Gayle, or anything by local author, Karl Hill.

And we are both loving watching Heartstopper on Netflix

If you fancy a takeaway in Govanhill, what do you order?

Wee Graham's favourite is pizza from Errol’s Hot Pizza. It’s such a treat to eat!

Favourite spot in Govanhill?

As you turn into Victoria Road, looking straight ahead into Glasgow. Or just sitting in the Allison Arms with pals and a pint.

Where do you love to shop in the area?

It’s great to have a wander round the charity shops. But we also love the fact that with all the local shops and businesses, you can get just about anything – from buying my latest mobile phone to selling our last house.

Issue 9 is nearly here! Fulton’s will be one of the cafes that will have free copies of our new issue. Sign up to be a member today to get a copy sent straight to your home.
