Rumpus Room Summer School in collaboration with Govanhill Youth Club 

Move to Action Summer School is a programme of collective activity between artists, youth workers, young people, children and families exploring movement, wellbeing and activism through making art, play, being active and finding ways to connect in uncertain times. Move to Action will take place in children, young people and families’ homes, on their kitchen tables, and outdoors in public space.

Move to Action collaborating artists include Alaya AngJamie Bolland and STASISWe will be working locally in Govanhill but you can also take part from home wherever you are through our online programme. 

The programme also includes cooking, growing, reading and group cycling activities. 

Follow our instagram and youtube to get involved with weekly activities. Post your responses to us online using #RumpusMovetoAction or by hand to our mailbox outside the studio gates on Langside Lane in Govanhill. All ages welcome to join in! 

The Out & About Club - Led by Alaya Ang (for children & families)

Join Alaya at The Out & About Club, a project for children & families exploring ways we can make art together, learn outdoors and connect with each other using the Rumpus Room mailbox! Every Monday Alaya will share a video and instructions from The Out & About Club for you to take part in at home.

Alaya Ang/K.I.D.S is an artist based in Glasgow and is the instigator of K.I.D.S. which stands for Kreatively Imagining a Decolonial School.

The New Games Movement - led by Jamie Bolland (10-16yrs)

Part performance, part conversation, part game; the new games movement is an experiment into how we can share ideas and invite collective action in uncertain times.

Every Thursday Jamie will share experiments into the new games movement that started earlier this year with children and young people at Rumpus Room to ask questions about what the new games movement could be. Each week we will share a new action & video you can try at home or outside.

Jamie Bolland is an artist, skateboarder and teacher, living and working in Glasgow: This project is aimed at 12-16yrs but older young people & families are also welcome to join in.

Body Doodle - led by STASIS (12-18 yrs)

STASIS and young people from Govanhill Roma Youth Project (PHT) will take over Rumpus Room’s Tiktok for the next 6 weeks. Together, they will co-create a routine by setting weekly challenges every Friday, responding to each other's movements and choreography. 

You can feed into the routine/try out the weekly challenges by following @rumpusroomteam on TikTok or by using #RumpusMovetoAction #STASIStakeover

STASIS make dance, live art & installations. STASIS artists Aniela Piasecka, Olivia Norris, Isabel Palmstierna and Paloma Proudfoot live and work between Glasgow & London.

What’s Cooking?

Tuesdays 4pm (10-18yrs)

Join young people & families from Govanhill Youth Club for a series of cook-alongs at home. Young people from the group will be hosting, cooking and sharing their favourite things to eat. The recipes will feature in their first cookbook. Pick up the ingredients between 12pm- 2pm, each Tuesday from GYC Base at 494 Cathcart Road ahead of the cookalong at 4pm. The youth club will also be making up soil and seed packs to grow your own herbs and veggies at home. If you’d like to take part cooking along, hosting a session, growing at home or sending us a recipe get in touch at youth@govanhillbaths.com

Pedal Power (8-18yrs) 

Join Rumpus Room, Govanhill Youth Club and Bike for Good for a series of group cycles in July & August. Bikes, helmets and snacks will be provided for young people (or you can bring your own bike if you have one). These sessions will be held outdoors and will follow social distancing guidelines. Limited places available, get in touch to book a free place at youth@govanhillbaths.com

Banshee Summer Book Club (8-25yrs)

Mondays 2-5pm 
Banshee Books is a small DIY library of anti-racist, feminist, queer and questioning books & zines for children, young people and families. The library will be open on Mondays 2-5pm in the clubhouse in the yard at the studio in Govanhill for children, young people and families to borrow, donate or lend to. The library is made from donated books - if you have any you’d like to donate or lend to us then please get in touch at rumpusroomteam@gmail.com

Young Activist Online Meet Up & Magazine Launch (14-25yrs)

23rd July 4-5pm with Lucy Grainge & Rosemaire Geary 

If you’re a young person interested in activism and using your voice for change join us for an online meet up & sharing of the first draft of our magazine we’ve been working on. The session is open and informal and for any young person anywhere (14-25yrs) that wants to get involved in activism but might not know where to start. We’re continuing to host this group online so it’s more accessible to a wider group of people. If you’re under 18 and want to join please ask a parent/carer to email us first rumpusroomteam@gmail.com 

We’re still collecting making materials for our ART ACTION PACKS which will be continuing over the summer. If you’re an artist or maker (or anyone that might have surplus art or making materials) that could be used by children, young people and families at home please get in touch. 

We will continue to distribute packs directly to people we work with and more widely through Glasgow Mutual Aid and other local organisations, reaching young people and families across Glasgow. 

Materials can be left at the studio in Govanhill on Mondays between 2-5pm. Let us know if you want to come by for a no contact drop off.  If you would like to request a pack or to refer someone please get in touch!

Pay It Forward

We have been processing free mobile phone top ups for young people since the start of lockdown. We've paid out over £1000 over the last 3 months to support them to keep in touch. Thanks to South East Integration Network and your Pay It Forward donations for supporting this programme.

We're now at the end of this funding pot but there is still a need for free top ups for yps, if anyone can signpost us to other orgs that can provide top ups, funding to our keep our free top ups going or can pay something directly to our Pay It Forward Bank please get in touch rumpusroomteam@gmail.com

Rumpus Room is an artist-led initiative dedicated to collaborative arts practice working in mutual exchange with children and young people in order to challenge how we play, learn and make art. Rumpus Room Studio is based in Govanhill. The studio is run by artists and host a programme of youth-led creative activity for children, young people and their families living in Govanhill and wider community. 

Rumpus Room welcomes collaborations with-like minded people and projects so if you have an idea for a child or youth led project get in touch! All workshops and meet-ups are free. If we can do anything to make Rumpus Room more accessible to you, let us know.
