When Govanhill Baths was closed by Glasgow City Council, the people who fought to keep the building open had not imagined that, 25 years later, they’d still be fighting.
Despite the two decades since its closure, campaigners, old and new, are more determined than ever. On Saturday 21 March, they gathered to mark the 25th anniversary. The gathering was a reminder of the community's resilience and desire to reopen a much-loved and much needed community space. Importantly, it was also a call for action for funding of £10 million to support the reopening of the building, which, once opened, will feature health and wellbeing projects, inclusive swimming sessions, a sauna and more.

Those who used the swimming pools as children, others who had chained themselves to the changing rooms during the occupation in 2001, were present, brought together with the high energy of the live brass band and drummers. Photographer, Laura Vroomen, captured the day.
