The Community Newsroom launches ‘Open House’ series with event on Glasgow’s housing emergency

As part of a new series of events in The Community Newsroom, Greater Govanhill and The Ferret are asking folk to share their thoughts on Glasgow’s housing emergency. Do you have a story to share? Or thoughts on what the media should be covering? Come along on the 23rd Feb

Come along to our first monthly Open Newsroom event.

Glasgow – as well as other towns and cities across Scotland –  is facing a housing emergency. We know landlords are hiking rents, more people are struggling with issues like damp and mould, thousands are stuck in temporary accommodation and an unacceptable number are finding themselves homeless with nowhere to go.

But it doesn’t have to be like this.

We want to hear about your experiences to help us tell better stories about both the impact of the housing emergency and what we collectively could be doing better.

So we’re throwing open the doors of our Govanhill-based community newsroom at 9.30-11am on Friday, 23 February and giving you the floor.

Do you have a story you’d like to share about our housing emergency? Maybe it’s direct experience or you could be working with an organisation, or your community, to make things better? Perhaps you have ideas about how the media should be telling the story better? Or you might just want to hear what others think.

Tea, coffee and pastries served. All are welcome and it’s free but please sign up on Eventbrite as numbers are limited.

And if you’re not based in Glasgow – or you can’t make it – don’t worry. You can also send your thoughts on this topic to newsroom@greatergovanhill.com. All responses will be read in confidence by one of our journalists.

Greater Govanhill magazine or The Ferret might want to follow-up your story ideas, or perhaps help you write something for yourself. But we would never do so without asking your permission first.

  • 9.30-11am: Friday, 26 April
